Praying Dog... 07/29/2010

I continue to observe this interesting ritual behavior from Bear when he eats ... and I think he's praying before he digs in.

Hear me out on this one {before you imagine me in a straight jacket, K?}

He starts out by sitting in front of his full food bowl
{no eye contact is made}

Then he lays down in front of the bowl, front paws stretched out toward bowl
{head between legs on ground, staring intensely at the bowl}

Next, he sits back up
{continuing to stare at the bowl}

Finally, he sniffs the contents of the bowl
{nudging the food with the tip of his nose}


As long as no one has entered his space, eating now begins. 

If one of the kiddos {or I} breeze past him, he has to start all over again.

My Theory?

When he was a pup he used to eat his food so fast he would puke it all back up within minutes.

Now he’s 3 y/o & I think he’s begging praying to the gourmet food Gods to allow it to stay down each time. 

Or maybe he’s just OCD??

Great the cat needs prozac & the dog has ritual eating disorder ... I’m seeing a pattern here.
