I find it so interesting that when I'm with my kids on my own I am one of the most together people you'll come across, yet ~ when I have DH along I seem to fall into this "ditz" mode!

During our lively game of "Rubberneckers" {see previous post} I assign DH as the co-pilot for the state park I wanted to visit ...

... it had some magnificent waterfalls, according to the visitor's guide.

As we get off the main highway & begin to determine just how far on this deserted side road we will have to go, DH takes a look at the fuel gauge. Then asks just how far will my car go on EMPTY???

Arrrgggghh!

I wish I could say "I knew that!" but I had to eat my humble pie & start looking for a gas station.

For as simple as this everyday task is, I loved this part of the trip because it was the first time my kids had ever seen us pay CASH to fill up! Honestly, I had almost forgotten how to do it myself!

But remember, we only had $300 cash for all expenses! What a great teachable moment when filling up the car took $50 bucks out, just like that! DS#2 had to recount the cash just to make sure it was dwindling!

Now back on the road, goodbye civilization, hello homemade sandwiches.

As we winded through what seemed like "high desert" {& nothing else} we were finally spit into the state park that was my pick for the trip.

It was an amazing sight, beautiful rock formations & the lookouts were angled perfectly. But, as you can see by the picture for this post, it was all lost on me when I spotted the sign attached to the chain link fence that keeps you from the edge.

I could immediately hear the comedian that is known for saying "Here's your sign" :o)

Seriously, have we gotten to be a society that such a sign is necessary ... on a fence????

After that, the thrill was gone for me. All the boys posed for the typical tourist shot ~

"family was here ... minus Mom, who is taking the photo"

Then we headed for the restroom before getting back on the road ... let me just say, I'll save you the gory details & sum it up with:

EEEWWWWWWW!

Plenty of time to ponder proper public restroom etiquette at a state park while we sailed across farmland to our next lodging stop ... family!
