Family Road Trip ... Part 3 08/25/2009
![]() So many creature comforts you take for granted in your own home ... TIVO {to fast forward through the commercials while watching Leverage} The noises you grow accustomed to during the night ... {unlike the pitter-patter of feet running around the floor above you at 2am} Your favorite coffee, brewed your way {instead of the cheap free stuff in the lobby} :-) But the next morning was our second reason for taking this road trip. DS#2 had watched a show on Food Network about the "Spud Nut Shops" in the US. Turns out back in the 40's there was an attempt to de-throne the traditional doughnut by using potato flour. An entire franchise was born & these shops flourished for several decades. Thank you Food Network! We had now driven several hours to try out the Spud Nut! So after our restless night {the kids seemed to sleep alright} we headed straight for the Spud Nut Shop ... 1.1 miles to go, I was driving & yes, we got lost yet again :o) True to my womanly nature, I called the shop & asked for directions :o) I felt like I had been dropped into a confectioner's version of Starbucks! The line was almost out the door when we arrived {at 8am} & folks placed their well practiced order right away ~ were served ~ & out the door they went! Yikes! I was intimidated! I can't even imagine what poor darling DS#2 was thinking! We quickly realized we could fully enter & sit in the dining area ... phew! Out of the way of the impatient regulars & into a booth. Turns out the cinnamon rolls were fresh out of the oven & still piping hot ... boys & I ordered those. The picture for this post is what was left of DS#2's order {with his chocolate milk} I was surprised he was full 1/2 way through, until they all confessed to me they had gone down to the hotel breakfast while I was still asleep! At least he had some healthy stuff before all the sugar! On our way out I picked out a dozen sweet treats to take with us for our next stop ... sight seeing, then family. Our day was under way ...
