MTV today... 07/15/2009
![]() In the past few days I've been ~ understandably ~ making a gentle re-entry back into life as usual. Now having a teenager in the house means ... ... that at least some decent chunk of summer time will be dedicated to the boob-tube & as luck would have it MTV has followed our lead ~ it gave birth to multiple channels :o) Lounging with the kiddos this morning I found myself completely wrapped up in what appeared to be "MTV2" {I'm guessing the second born??} The show was "Bam's Unholy Union". Now let me set the stage: I was headed out to the front porch for some peaceful hot beverage consumption {it was gorgeous out!} when I happen to notice a TV on in DH's office. With a little observatory snoop I find that DS#2 is following in the footsteps of big bro & glued to what appears to be a close distant cousin to one of the "I'm an idiot & convinced camera men to follow me around" shows. Concerned, I diverted the call of alone time & cuddled up on the cozy recliner with the unsuspecting child. Now in most homes this may cause some serious unease for the offspring ~ in mine they just take in my facial expressions to see if its safe to continue the course. {in this case it was ~ I was intrigued} Usually I pull this stunt as a way to 'preview' the content & see if it's appropriate to be taking up precious mind cells ... so far so good. Turns out {aside from all the cussing} this was one show I could actually put the Mom Seal of Approval on. Why??? You may ask shocked :-) What I witnessed in the few episodes we watched was a guy who aside from the outfits & tattoos {hey we had the equivalent in our day!} was someone who loves having fun {to the fullest} but with an amazing set of morals. The day before the big wedding he & all his {adult} buddies are trying out his new {full scale} skate ramp park {in the backyard} when one of the groomsman reluctantly attempts a trick. Fast forward past 5 minutes of commercials & the poor guy is being rolled out of the hospital in a wheelchair {both legs broken!}. As a Mom I'm thinking "STUPID ***!" However, what impressed me was that he felt responsible for the guys injuries & took care of him clear up until the wedding {including helping him relieve himself!} While the bride-to-be was understandably irritated, he still managed to sneak away from the camera men to make it up to her. Sorry folks, that's what I would call modern day chivalry! Now if you're old enough to remember watching "Thriller" on the original MTV then you've probably had some of the same opinions of most, that they have done the next generation a disservice with their "updated" approaches. I'm not so sure we should jump to conclusions so quickly. By the time we were ready to turn the TV off both my boys had seen a guy {that appeared cool} have fun & be respectful to his friends, family & future wife ~ without a whole lot of build up to the sex or any other fantasies of what freedoms supposedly await you in adult life. Looking forward to your thoughts... TOAM CommentsLeave a Reply |
